REF:Opening of Elyria Police Department's Website
DATE: August 23, 1999
The Elyria Police Department is pleased to announce the opening of the department's official website at www.elyriapolice.org. The website will be used as an outlet to allow the Elyria Police Department to provide information to the public, while giving the public another venue for contacting and providing input to the department.
According to Elyria Police Chief Michael Medders, "Our website will be a valuable tool that will allow people who normally do not have contact with the police department a chance to see what we, as a police department, are doing. We hope that all members of the community will visit the website often and will use the various services that are available on the website."
In addition to providing valuable information to the public, the website also invites the public to provide the Elyria Police Department with feedback about how the police department responded to calls for service. A page on the website contains a high tech version of the questionnaire that the Elyria Police Department started using last year to randomly follow up on calls by having police supervisors contact complainants and inquire about how the police personnel responded to the citizen's request for service. "Through the almost two years that we have been using the questionnaires, there has been an overwhelming satisfaction with the service that our officers have given to the public," said Chief Medders. "So far, 98% of those who have responded to the questionnaires have felt that the members of the Elyria Police Department have responded to their calls for service in a professional and courteous manner."
The website was designed and is being maintained by Explorer Captain Richard Pozywak, a member of the Boy Scout Explorer Post that is sponsored by the Elyria Police Department. Please take a few minutes and visit the Elyria Police Department on the worldwide web at www.elyriapolice.org.
