REF:Proficiency Driving Course
DATE: August 23, 1999
The Elyria Police Department is conducting a proficiency driving course for its officers at the Lorain County Regional Airport each Tuesday from now through September. The Police Department sets up a course that simulates various traffic conditions involving both low and high speed maneuvering.
Chief Medders states that, "Lorain County Regional Airport offers us a great place to conduct this course. It's hard to find that much clear, paved area anywhere in the county." Daniel A. Abfall, Airport Director said the course area is located outside of any ramp or taxiways and does not interfere with airport operations. Abfall added, "We are happy to be able to provide the use of this facility for their exercise."
Other departments will be joining the Elyria Police Department during the course of training. All departments who benefit from the use of the driving course wish to extend their thanks to the Lorain County Regional Airport and their personnel for the assistance in making this training possible.
The media is welcome to come out to the airport any Tuesday between noon and 8:00 p.m. to view the activities. Please contact Captain Dennis Will for further details and scheduling.
