On August 27, 2004 the Elyria Police Department responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of Middle Ave and 16th St.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 29 year old Elyria man was operating a 1976 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on 16th St. Brad T. Scott, an off-duty Elyria Police Officer, was operating a 2001 Honda 929R Motorcycle northbound on Middle Ave. The passenger car entered the intersection and the motorcycle lost control, apparently taking evasive action. Scott and the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet Impala. Scott, a seven year veteran of the Elyria Police Department, died as a result of injuries received.

The traffic crash is currently under investigation. No charges have been filed at the time of this media release.
