
Capt. Jaykel began his career with the Elyria Police Department in 1979. He attended The Ohio State Highway Patrol Basic Police Academy and was elected by his fellow officers and instructors as the Class Speaker at graduation.
Upon completing the Field Officer Training Program, Capt. Jaykel worked road patrol. In 1981 Capt. Jaykel was transferred from Patrol Division to the Detective Bureau. During his tenure in the Detective Bureau, Capt. Jaykel was assigned several high profile cases to investigate. One of these cases was the homicide of Sandra Stuller. Later, this investigation was featured on the Discovery Channel's, "New Detectives" series. Also during this time period, Capt. Jaykel was assigned to Narcotics. He gathered information on drug dealers, tracked funds and assisted with controlled drug buys.
In 1994 Capt. Jaykel was promoted to the rank of Sergent. He was transferred from the Detective Bureau to Patrol Division. Capt. Jaykel worked as a Patrol Sergeant for three (3) years.
In 1997 Capt. Jaykel was promoted to Lieutenant. At that time he assumed the duties and responsibilities of supervising a shift.
In 1998 Capt. Jaykel was trained as the Patrol Commander for the Patrol Division. Along with his new responsibilities he organized and managed many major events for the police department such as, the 4th of July Fireworks, the Apple Festival, the Elyria High School Band Appreciation Day, and the Memorial Day Parade.
In 2003, Capt. Jaykel was promotion to Operations Captain. His responsibilities and duties increased to include managing and supervising a major portion of the manpower and activities connected with the Elyria Police Department.
