Captain Hood graduated from the Elyria High School in 1971 and received his Associate's Degree from the Lorain County Community College in 1979. His background prior to police service was in mechanical engineering. He worked for three years as a designer for the Nordson Corporation first in their Powder Coating Division and then in their Robotics Division. Prior to that, he worked as a technical illustrator for The Ohio Brass Company.
Captian Hood maintains an interest in and occasionally perform freelance graphics work. He's an avid bowler and enjoys working on sports cars.
