Captain Hood has served since 1976 as a police officer for the City of Elyria. He currently holds the rank of captain and serves as the Service Division Commander and the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. In addition to being the manager of human resources with the department, his duties include the maintenance of the departments budget, research and development pertaining to policy and procedure, the application for and maintenance of all grant funded programs, and any other duties assigned by the Chief of Police. Capt. Hood also holds, or has held, the following positions within the Elyria Police Department:

	Certified Law Enforcement Executive as conferred by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the Law Enforcement Foundation
	FBI HDS certified hazardous device (bomb) technician and former member of county-wide explosive response group.
	Certified motor vehicle crash reconstructionist. Previously held responsibility for the Elyria Police Department's group of technical accident investigators.
	Certified Field Training Officer. Certified Field Training Coach Program Manager.
	Internal Affairs Investigator
	Former supervisor of the Elyria Police Department's Records Division.
	Former administrator of Elyria Police Department's AS/400 computer system.
	Former Patrol Shift Officer-in-Charge
	Former supervisor of the Elyria Police Department's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
	Former member of the Elyria Police Department's Special Response Team
	Former Canine handler

    Captain Hood graduated from the Elyria High School in 1971 and received his Associate's Degree from the Lorain County Community College in 1979. His background prior to police service was in mechanical engineering. He worked for three years as a designer for the Nordson Corporation first in their Powder Coating Division and then in their Robotics Division. Prior to that, he worked as a technical illustrator for The Ohio Brass Company.

   Captian Hood maintains an interest in and occasionally perform freelance graphics work. He's an avid bowler and enjoys working on sports cars.
