The Elyria
Police Department is investigating a traffic crash which occurred at the
intersection of Abbe Rd and Antioch Dr in the City of Elyria at approximately
0030 hrs on February 27, 2004.
An officer, on patrol
in the area, found 27 year old David P. Webb, from North Olmstead, who appeared
to have been struck by a motor vehicle, lying unconscious in the roadway. The motor vehicle had left the area. Mr Webb was flown from the scene by Metro
Life Flight and taken to Cleveland Metro Hospital where he later died.
On March 1,
2004, Mr William R. Mannillo, 26 years old, of 1320 W. 18th St, Lorain Oh, came
to the Elyria Police Station with his attorney Mr Jack Bradley. Mr Mannillo was identified as the driver of
the vehicle involved in the crash being investigated. The evidence gathered during the investigation along with
statements by Mr Mannillo indicate the crash was the result of a deliberate act
by Mr Webb.
Mr Mannillo was
released on a summons to the Elyria Municipal Court on March 10, 2004, for one
charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, a misdemeanor of the first
degree. A misdemeanor of the first
degree is punishable by up to one thousand dollars and up to six months in
jail.
