The Elyria Police Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The Record Room remains open on a continual basis. Normal operating hours for the Investigative Bureau and Chief's Office are Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm.
Copies of police reports are available free of charge. Reports may be picked up at the Police Department Record Room. Investigative reports are not permitted to be released. You must allow 24 hours after an incident/accident is reported before you can obtain a copy of a police report.
If for some reason you had your vehicle towed, you must obtain a vehicle release. This can be picked up at the Record Room. You will need to be sure the vehicle is currently registered, have either the registration or title with you and a valid driver license. The Elyria Police Department currently is under contact with Mug's Elyria Towing Service located at 222 South Abbe Rd. Elyria, Ohio. Their telephone number is (440)-366-0935.
A citizen needing fingerprints should contact the Record Room at (440)-322-1827 to schedule a possible time to come down to be fingerprinted. In some cases, the person to be printed must bring their company's fingerprint card. Please read your paperwork before coming to the station. There is no fee for fingerprinting services. A picture identification is required for fingerprinting.
Bicycle licenses are available through the Elyria Police Department Records Division. They maybe contacted at (440)-322-1827. Cost is $1.00 "one dollar" per bicycle.
Jail visitation hours are on Sundays and Wednesdays. The times vary depending on the pod that the inmate is housed in. Please contact the Jail at (440)-326-1324 or (440)-326-1325 for future information.

A citizen requesting a local record check for employment purposes may do so in person at the Records Division of the Police Department. This service is done free of charge.
Fines for traffic citations must be paid in the Clerk of Courts Office, located in the Elyria Municipal Court Building, 601 Broad Street or via the Clerk of Elyria Municipal Court's Office Website www.elyriamunicourt.org. Their business hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The police department will not accept payment of traffic citations when the Clerk of Elyria Municipal Court's Office is closed.
