REF:Wendy Burkey Murder

On May 26, 2001 at 12:01 P.M., Elyria Police Department responded to a call on Yorkshire Court in the area where it dead-ends and abuts to the Conrail tracks.
The nature of the call as dispatched was of a suspicious condition that there was a female in a brown van parked in a parking lot on Yorkshire Court and that the female was unresponsive. Units from the Elyria Fire Department and LifeCare arrived and medical personnel immediately advised that the female in the van was deceased.
Investigation was begun and initial forensics indicated that the female was a victim of a gunshot wound and that the death was being treated as suspicious in nature.
The victim was identified as Wendy Burkey, who resided at 1036 Barbara Street in the City of Elyria and that she was 32 years of age.
The initial investigation indicates that Wendy Burkey was an employee of Elyria Maintenance Company, located on Yorkshire Court and, in fact, the vehicle in which she was found was parked in the lot maintained by her employer.
The Elyria Police Department is conducting the investigation as a matter of a homicide and the investigation continues at this time.
